"It was a pleasant cafe, warm and clean and friendly, and I hung up my old water-proof on the coat rack to dry and put my worn and weathered felt hat on the rack above the bench and ordered a cafe au lait. The waiter brought it and I took out a notebook from the pocket of the coat and a pencil and started to write."
Ernest Hemingway
"Coffee should be black as hell, strong as death, and as sweet as love."
Turkish proverb
"Coffee is a fleeting moment and a fragrance."
Claudia Roden

Puget Sound coffee links.
CLOUD CITY COFFEE
8801 Roosevelt Way NE
(206) 527-5552
Opened in 2002, this is a Maple Leaf neighborhood favorite. Funky decor (it was once a garage, check out the cool doors), tasty baked goods, dog-friendly, lotsa books, magazines and games, and, of course, strong and reasonably priced java.
STARBUCKS COFFEE
2143 N NORTHGATE WAY
(206) 417-1403
Ah, Starbucks...the name is practically synomymous with coffee. The chain that started right here in Seattle now has thousands and thousands of locations around the world, and we have one right in the heart of the Northgate business district. Big windows, comfy chairs, and tasty coffee in a myriad of sizes and varieties.
HIROKI
2224 North 56th Street
(206)547-4128
Hiroki is a fairly new addition to the Tangletown/Green Lake area, but has rapidly become a neighborhood destination. It is not a coffee house, per se, but rather a specialty dessert café offering a variety of Japanese/European fusion-style desserts. They are mentioned on our coffee page for two reasons: 1) The food is awesome. Try the green tea tiramisu, it's simply lovely. 2) They pull a mean shot of espresso, as well as offering a pleasing selection of coffee drinks and loose-leaf teas.
ZOKA COFFEE ROASTER AND TEA CO
2200 North 56th Street
(206) 545-4277
Zoka's is yet another Tangletown/Green Lake neighborhood favorite. A hangout for locals and college students (you've never seen so many laptops in one place outside campus). They roast their own beans, so the coffee is very fresh. A nice selection of teas and eats as well.
